So that happened.

Cleaning out the bookmarks again. I’ve been looking into foaf some. I’ll prolly post about it at some point. In addition to reading most of the second addition Java XML book on saturday. I have a lot of enthusiasm for the java at the moment. Which is odd considering I hate it…
In other news Bryan Elie is visiting for a couple days, he got here late saturday and he’s staying until sometime this week. I heard the target is now open in Poughkeepsie, so I might have to check that out. I really shouldn’t buy anything though, since i’m trying to reduce clutter. I’ll be putting a bunch of stuff on ebay tonight, but i’ll post about that later.
links et all.

I like this one a lot. It’s a guide on how not to talk. It’s interesting, I like to be contrary cause I get bored a lot. People fall back on these techniques very quickly and it is interesting to watch for them.
Whole Food is an interesting progrssive business. The article makes it seem like their progrssive management makes this company great. I however am of the firm belief that the customers nad the employees this type of business attracts also plays a big role.
Defective Yeti gives an awesome breakdown of what we sent on pioneer 10 to explain ourselves to aliens. Wow.
In one of the most retarded things I’ve heard in a while, in order to defend our electorial process from terrorists we are working on plans to AUTOMATICALLY SHUT DOWN ELECTIONS IF WE ARE ATTACKED. Doesn’t that kinda make disrupting our elections with terror a slam dunk?
Finally it only takes a few minutes. Get off your ass go to this webpage fill out a couple forms and print out your voter registration form. Please do it

Finally Scanning Some Photos

So I finally got around to scanning some of my photos from europe, maybe about a third of them have been scanned so far.

venice0002.jpg

This photo I took in venice always makes me wonder. Was it a joke? Was it legit? The world may never know. Anyway you can view the ones that are online here
Anyway besides that I sold my iBook along with all the accessories. It’ll be nice to have the cash in my pocket but i’ll miss it some. Time will tell if I get another mac to replace it. Maybe, maybe not.

Posting like it’s my job.

That title is funnier than you think it is. Anyway. My blog is up and running I’m in the process of tying up the loose ends. Yesterday I made sure my XHTML, CSS, and RSS all validate. Today I’m trying to fix the last couple of formatting issues. On side notes, some people have commented that the date on the top of my post area is the wrong date. The deal with that is the date corresponds to the posts that went under that date. If I post several times in a day they’ll all be automagically grouped. That’s kinda nice but I’m looking to turn it off. My last post complained about html in my post. The deal with that was a commented out setting in the config.py. The following value must be set.

py['parser'] = ‘plain’

In other news. I’m working on getting monkey-journal set up. It’s a little annoying but I’m writing up the problems and workarounds in both setting it up and setting up pyblosxom. So expect that in a couple days.

Linkfest!

Google in 1960
Connie Rice’s top 10 weapons of mass distraction. I would also like to see the conservative’s version of this list
Einstein was investigated by the FBI. Dizamn
From the UN Ten Stories the world should know more about.
Apple ends the Rendezvous name and moves to OpenTalk
And finally the most badass thing ever. iPod Speakers made from altoid boxes

I don’t care who you are. I think being able to make interesting useful things is one of the coolest things people can do. I think I’m going to make a conserted effort to continue modifing or making as much of my own stuff as possible. Thats about it.

Wayne’s World

Wayne Campbell: I once thought I had mono for an entire year, It turned out I was just really bored.

Relax.

To quote my desktop wallpapaer
The good ideas are flowing all around. Don’t ignore your instinct. There is always a better way. Someone loves you. Breath. Challenge everything you believe. Know thyself. Server others. Be kind.

I’m back baby.

So I just set up pyblosxom (that sucks to spell) clarkbw has been a fan of this style blogging engine, the original blosxom is written in perl. That’s not my bag at all, I avoid perl if it can be helped … I blame horn. Anyway, pyblosxom is a reimplementation of blosxom in python, the greatest language ever. Frear not faithful readers, fromage goes on, however it will be used to run zetanu.net well, not right now, but after my thesis is done. I plan on using it to tie different webservices together for a community site for the alumni of my fraternity. So that’s where it stands I guess. Now back to work. Also this flavour needs tuning, but that’s work for another time.

Eclipse, not just for java anymore.

So this is a pretty hot article on developer works about using Eclipse as an IDE instead of a JAVA IDE. I have to say for java I still love IDEA, however eclipse is about $500 cheaper.

PyBlosxom 1.0

Debian packages pyblosxom 0.8.1 which is pretty old. I just upgraded to 1.0 for plugins, and to fix the redering of my files.Unfortunately as you can tell pyblosxom insisits on displaying the html found in the posts. If you know what this is happening let me know it’s freaking annoying.

In other news the rss feed is now working (thanks clarkbw). Tim’s new waste of time displays it well. eatmyfeed eats my feed well. Damn tim does a good job eating other peoples bits.
